Fall of Yggdrasil is a co-optional board game that aims to capture the sense of excitement and uncertainty within an age of discovery. Each player will set out into an unexplored continent that changes with each playthrough, with hundreds of discoveries to explore. But its also more than that. Becoming a celebrated explorer comes with expectations. Whilst you won't control your settlement directly, your influence, discoveries, and decisions will shape the future of your culture. And all the while your people are coming to terms with the ecological ramifications of the world tree's collapse.

Violent winds govern the lands of the continent, making traditional travel difficult. But in this fantastical world, sailing ships don’t take to the water, but to the land. Your Landship and its crew are at the heart of your game. It’s from here that you’ll charter your expeditions across 80+ unique locations, and discover new opportunities for your people back home. Ancient ruins of those that came before, the wrecks of failed voyages, trade and diplomacy, all from the helm of your own ship.
The wild frontier is a strange place, full of curiosities to unearth, beasts to battle, and loot to plunder. With dozens of unique artefacts to claim and fiends to tame, every voyage will offer something new to find. These artefacts of the old world may significantly change your gameplay, but they’re never without a cost. Through their enigmatic descriptions, you may even start to piece together the hidden lore of those who came before. And with more than a dozen unique fiends as well as roaming bandits, each with unique combat mechanics, encounters are never the same.
Whilst journeying the frontiers, you represent the hope and future of your people. Four distinct cultures inhabit the outer coasts of the continent, each with their own aesthetic. Whilst settling the frontier, you will be assigning new Govenors, developing new technologies, and recruiting champions as crew or to maintain and expand your spheres of influence. Diplomacy and mediation with your fellow players is key to unified success, but perhaps you'll have more self serving interests?
With 70+ technologies, change your style of play to focus on combat, exploration, commerce, processing, or balance your playstyle between multiple focuses. Combine your learnings from disciplines to cause a ‘breakthrough’ and reach advanced technologies all without tedious skill tree graphs.
Voyages into the frontier are perilous, with the wind blasted terrain and unfamiliar threats lurking in the wild expanse. Each time you voyage out you will experience a fresh set of vignettes; excerpts from your captain's log of the strange encounters, beautiful mysteries and foreboding landscapes that you will explore. With almost 100 encounters and multiple ways they can unfold, there are hours worth of new experiences every time you set sail into the continent.
Seasons come and pass, each bringing new challenges that reward forward thinking. But the world is also changing, and as players impact it they'll feel the repercussions of their actions through narrative and mechanical twists. Players are not static, and neither is the continent they inhabit.
Your journey into the frontier is not one to be taken alone. Braving the unknown alongside you are your homeland’s champions; diplomats, soldiers and rangers. With over a dozen heroes, they not only offer benefits as crewmates aboard your Landship, but disembark to act independently and help manage your influence on the frontier. Each culture hosts a diverse roster of characters, who’s stories you will come to shape with each game session.
For a limited time during the kickstarter campaign, two additional plugins will expand the world of the great continent even further. A new form of champion introduces a tumultuous new spin on the world, while a fifth culture brings a more nomadic style of play...
